Chapter4
Ok people, if I owned anything, why the heck would I be writing a fan fiction? Enjoy this chapter and keep in mind that I am starting this at 9:50 p.m.

     Katara focused her eyes at the ground, though she could feel Zuko’s golden intense orbs boring into her head, possibly into her very mind.

“You look stunning.” Zuko said to the girl with the blue veil. Her eyes were downcast and she kept a blank emotionless look on her face. She could barely stomach being in such close proximity with the prince, did she really have to talk to him too?
She decided that if she wanted the money she’d have to pretend this was the best night of her life.

“I didn’t know the Firelord possessed such magnificent charm.” She said. One of the talents she had acquired over the years of dancing was the fake blush. It made the men think she truly liked their compliment. He smirked.

“What can I say? I got it from my father.” Ok, now she was surely gonna lose her last meal of chicken and rice.

“Such strong arms, did you get it from training-” they were interrupted by a firm tap on Zuko’s shoulder. His fury flashed through his golden eyes. He met flaring blue eyes from behind him.

“May I cut in?” he growled.

“No, as a matter of fact you may not. Now if you’ll excuse me…” he said and turned around.

She recognized those eyes any where, he sounded older but she knew it was her brother. Thankful for the excuse to leave, she gave the Firelord a sweet smile and said in a teasing voice:

“Excuse me, my lord, but I need to speak with this man. I will return in a few minutes.” He was utterly shocked that she would contradict his words as she maneuvered around him to Sokka and embraced him. Zuko watched enviously.

They found a dark table in the back to talk.

“Sokka, it’s been so long! What are you doing in the fire nation?” his expression turned to anger.

“What are you doing in a dump like this, dancing with the ruler of enemy territory?”

“I didn’t have much of a choice…” she began telling him about the prison guard had offered her an escape, how she had been working for a few years as the Crystal blue dancer. And, why she danced with Zuko.  Sokka grimaced at how easily persuaded his sister had been.

“I can’t say that I am pleased at your predicament, but I know the solution: you could come with us.”

“Who’s us?” no sooner had the words escaped her mouth, than two dark figures approached them. One was a girl with clouded over green eyes and her raven black hair fixed in a huge bun raised above her head secured with a red and yellow headband with two yellow pom poms hanging down both sides. The other had the sweet grey eyes that followed her before. He had short black hair (as if he had just started growing it) with a rather peculiar red headband tied at the hairline. His awkward stance showed that he was definitely shy to meet her.

“Katara, about a year ago I found the avatar frozen in an ice berg, his name’s Aang.”
He blushed and they shook hands. She smiled warmly at him.

“It’s an honor to meet the avatar.”

“Likewise, I never thought I’d meet such a skilled water bender.” He said with a smile. Now it was her turn to blush.

“Ahem.” They heard a cough behind them. The voice was clearly annoyed at the two flirting.

“Sorry,” Sokka began, “This is Toph, a blind earth bender we met on our travels. She can see through the vibrations of the earth. Toph has generously agreed to teach Aang.” She punched him lightly on the arm. Katara reached out and shook her hand.

“You can see through vibrations? That’s amazing!” Katara said before she could stop herself. Toph merely shrugged.

“Thanks, I guess.” She turned to Aang.

“How many elements have you mastered?”

“Well technically just air, but I am close to master earth, right Toph?”

“Sure Twinkletoes, why not?” she rolled her eyes. Aang started rubbing the back of his head uncomfortably

“I still need a water bending teacher, that’s why we all came to the Fire nation. Sokka said you were good and your movements were strong and graceful. Would you care to join us in our revolt against the Firenation?”

“Or would you rather stay here and dance with their leader?” Sokka added sarcastically. Aang glared at him.

“Guys, I want to, really. But as I explained to Sokka, I am currently considered a slave of war to the government. I am close to buying my freedom, 900 gold pieces that will take no time at all!”

“You’ll still have a thousand to go if you don’t get over here right now!” Azulon had snuck up on their conversation after Rin came and told him the Firelord was rather displeased that she had left without his permission. He had heard a majority of their conversation.

“Sorry, I’ll be right there Azulon!” she said hurriedly.

“Meet me at the back of this building after this dreaded performance is done, bring Aang and Toph with you.” She whispered to Sokka. He nodded and she followed her master. The avatar never took his eyes off her.
